TIW Western Inc. is seeking a motivated Process Engineer with 5–10 years of relevant experience to join our growing team. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this position is based in our Calgary office.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in thermal process simulation development and optimization, as well as equipment selection and sizing. This role contributes to the overall engineering strategy and oversees thermal design activities from the estimating phase through detailed engineering and execution, including oversight of the sizing, design, and fabrication of thermal process equipment such as OTSGs, HRSGs, and direct-fired heaters.

The successful candidate will support Project Managers and other Project Engineers as required, working closely with estimating, procurement, quality assurance, and senior management to coordinate design activities and resolve technical and design-related issues across multiple projects.

Duties

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Liaise with project management, quality control, aftermarket, and drafting departments to ensure designs comply with the latest codes, standards, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, contracts, technical specifications, and design codes, including ASME Section I, Section VIII-Div 1, B31.1, B31.3, CSA-149.1/3, API, and others.
  • Perform thermal process simulations using various software (e.g., HTRI, FRNC, proprietary Excel-based tools) as required to complete process design, line sizing, and PSV/PRV sizing.
  • Validate process simulations to support the design of new thermal equipment.
  • Develop and stamp/seal process engineering deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat & Material Balances (HMBs), Equipment Datasheets, and PSV and control valve sizing calculations.
  • Support the registration of pressure vessels and piping, including the design of OTSGs and HRSGs.
  • Check and review the design and calculations of vendor-supplied equipment to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Check and review calculations and process deliverables prepared by other engineers.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of multi-discipline engineering activities throughout the project life cycle, including quotation, detailed design, fabrication, site installation, commissioning, and startup support.

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as ASME, CSA, and API.
  • Experience with mechanical design and engineering of process or heat transfer equipment, piping, and related systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design and project engineering work.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and time effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently when required; strong experience in interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to vendor or construction sites.

Education

  • Engineering degree in a related discipline.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Alberta, British Columbia, and/or Saskatchewan.
